SønderjyskE attacker Nazifi Yahaya has been selected for Nigeria’s U20 national team, which in February will play for the U20 World Cup qualification in Niger.
In the beginning of January SønderjyskE signed a contract with 18-year-old Nazifi Yahaya, but for the time being we have not seen much of him on the southern Jutland courses.
There is, however, a very good reason, because the Nigerian attacker has been in training camp with Nigeria’s U-20 national team, and there Yahaya has excelled so well – among other things with three goals and three assisted in three training matches – that he is now selected to the final squad to play World Cup qualification (U20 Cup of Nations) in Niger. After a three-week training camp, 21 players have been selected for the squad and with three players coming from foreign clubs. Besides Nazifi Yahaya, the defender Igoh Ogbu and midfield player Afeez Aremu are contracted in Norway with Rosenborg and IK Start respectively.
The World Cup qualification is played in Niger from February 2 to 17, and Yahaya and Nigeria have come to pool with Niger, South Africa and Burundi. The second group consists of Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana. Two teams from each pool will move on to the semi-finals, and the four best teams will receive a ticket for the summer’s U20 World Cup, which will be played in Poland from May 23 to June 15.
SønderjyskE wishes Nazifi Yahaya good luck in the tournament, and of course we keep you updated on how Nigeria is doing along the way.
